Articular defects in the knee: recent advances and future optimism.
نویسنده
چکیده
Injuries to the articular cartilage and meniscal tissue often result in pain and dysfunction, which can interfere with normal activities of daily living and limit athletic participation. Articular cartilage is hylaline cartilage and its poor inherent ability to heal has been cited in the literature as far back as 1743. Long-term damage to either the articular cartilage and to the menisci may promote progressive degenerative changes of the joint, eventually leading to chronic pain and disability.

متن کاملSurgical Treatment of Articular Cartilage Defects in the Knee: Are We Winning?
Articular cartilage (AC) injury is a common disorder. Numerous techniques have been employed to repair or regenerate the cartilage defects with varying degrees of success. Three commonly performed techniques include bone marrow stimulation, cartilage repair, and cartilage regeneration. This paper focuses on current level of evidence paying particular attention to cartilage regeneration techniques.

متن کاملArticular cartilage regeneration using cell sheet technology.
Cartilage damage is typically treated by chondrocyte transplantation, mosaicplasty, or microfracture. Recent advances in tissue engineering have prompted research on techniques to repair articular cartilage damage using a variety of transplanted cells. We studied the repair and regeneration of cartilage damage using layered chondrocyte sheets prepared in a temperature-responsive culture dish. W...
